Fixed-List Selection under a Consequence-Weighted Loss
Abstract
Expected opportunity cost makes performance gaps matter, while a fixed candidate count defines the comparison scope. The evaluation should report realized loss alongside exact-selection frequency. It also identifies the cost of unconsidered alternatives as outside the fixed-list task. A low within-list loss cannot establish that the enumeration covers the best useful actions. This focused synthesis develops an empirical comparison that preserves the terminal action, observation process, and total verification cost. Its proposed tests are prospective; no new simulation run, model-training result, or intervention effect is reported.
