An Adequate Retained Set under Opportunity Loss
Abstract
Good-enough selection can leave fine ranks unresolved, while opportunity-cost retention can protect valuable alternatives from exclusion. Their common task needs an external adequacy threshold and a second-stage decision. Evaluation reports false acceptance, exclusion loss, and later checking work. Initial savings are useful only through the complete independently evaluated retained-set workflow. This focused synthesis develops an empirical comparison that preserves the terminal action, observation process, and total verification cost. Its proposed tests are prospective; no new simulation run, model-training result, or intervention effect is reported.
